Göttingen win at Trier to defend lead in German BBL basketball league while Oldenburg, Bonn and Berlin all follow suit with wins.
Surprise team BG 74 Göttingen remained perched atop the German BBL basketball league standings after a Week 18 victory at TBB Trier. But EWE Baskets Oldenburg, Telekom Baskets Bonn and Alba Berlin all won as well to stay near the top. Göttingen Still Leaders After Win At TrierClif Brown came off the bench to score 21 points as BG 74 Göttingen knocked off TBB Trier 76-71 on the road to defend their spot atop the BBL. Kyle Bailey added 18 points and Roderick Trice scored 10 points as Göttingen made 16 of 17 free throws to hold off Trier. Göttingen improved to 13-3 in the league while Trier dropped to 8-10. Oldenburg Still Second After Road Win At GiessenEWE Baskets Oldenburg stayed on Göttingen's heels with an 83-70 road win against LTi Giessen 46ers. Oldenburg gave up just 27 first half points and held on to improve to 13-4. Je'Kel Foster scored 21 points and had 5 steals while Ricky Paulding poured in 18 points for the winners. Giessen remained in the relegation zone in dropping to 5-13. Bonn Need Overtime To Knock Off SkylinersTelekom Baskets Bonn are still in third place after needing overtime to knock Deutsche Bank Skyliners 84-75 at home. Skyliners went on an 18-0 run to grab control in the first half but a 14-0 Bonn run saw Bonn take over in the second half. Skyliners's Titus Ivery forced overtime by draining a three-pointer at the buzzer. And Winsome Frazier took over the extra session to lead Bonn to the win, which improved their record to 13-5. EJ Rowland paced the winners with 20 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. And Moussa Diagne added 18 points. Skyliners dropped to 12-6 for sixth place. Alba Berlin Beat Artland Dragons On RoadJulius Jenkins poured in 23 points as Alba Berlin kept pace with the leaders with a 90-78 win at Artland Dragons. Berlin had five players in double figures and coasted to the victory after leading 48-32 at half-time. Berlin are fouth in the standings at 12-6. Artland Dragons are 13th at 8-10. Bamberg Problems Continue With Loss At UlmLee Humphrey drained five three-pointers in scoring 21 points and Jeff Gibbs added 10 points and 14 rebounds as ratiopharm Ulm eased past Brose Baskets Bamberg 96-79 at home. Ulm remained fifth on the table with a 12-6 record. Bamberg are still in the play-off ranks at eighth place with a 9-9 record despite 20 points from newly acquired guard Dan Dickau. Ludwigsburg Cruise Past NördlingenEnBW Ludwigsburg are seventh in the standings at 9-9 following a comfortable 71-54 home win over Giants Nördlingen. Dane Watts, Brandon Woudstra and Tomas Nagys all scored 13 points for the winners. Nördlingen dropped to 7-11 in 14th place. Paderborn Beat Tübingen At HomeChris Ensminger (28 points and 11 rebounds) and Nathan Peavy (14 and 10) both notched double-doubles as Paderborn Baskets beat Walter Tigers Tübingen 78-70 at home. Paderborn, who also received 11 points and 9 rebounds from Steve Esterkamp, improved to 8-9 for ninth place. Tübingen lost for the seventh time in eight games in dropping to 6-12 in 15th place. Köln Create Space From Relegation Zone With Win Over DüsseldorfMichael Jordan proved he can still be a leader with 14 points, 4 rebounds, 8 assists and 3 steals in Köln 99ers's 80-78 victory at home over Giants Düsseldorf. Jeremy Hunt added 18 points for Köln, who improved to 6-12 in 16th place - one game from the relegation zone. Düsseldorf dropped to 8-10 in 12th place despite 22 points from Brant Bailey. Bremerhaven Snap 16-Game Losing StreakEisbären Bremerhaven finally won again, beating New Yorker Phantoms Braunschweig 96-84 at home, snapping a 16-game losing streak. Craig Callahan's 17 points paced five players in double figures as last placed Bremerhaven improved to 2-16. Braunschweig, who have now lost to Bremerhaven twice this season, are 8-10 in 11th place.
